What Your Nozzle Check Result Means

Each color channel should show complete, unbroken vertical lines when nozzles are firing correctly.

  • Broken or dashed lines in one color

Clogged nozzles in that ink channel.

What To Do: Run one or two head cleaning cycles, then repeat the nozzle check.

  • Entire color missing

Empty cartridge, sealed tape not removed, or failed print head.

What To Do: Reseat or replace the cartridge; service the head if the channel stays blank.

  • Faded lines in all colors

    Low ink across multiple cartridges.

What To Do: Check all ink levels and replace any low cartridges.

  • Solid unbroken lines in every color

    All nozzles are firing normally.

What To Do: No action needed — ink flow is healthy.

Common Questions About This Test

How many cleaning cycles should I run?
Start with one cleaning cycle, reprint the nozzle check, and repeat only if lines are still broken — avoid excessive cleaning.
Can a nozzle check fix streaks in photos?
It diagnoses clogged channels; if lines are broken, cleaning or cartridge replacement usually fixes photo streaks too.
